Research Abstract

Barsukov, S., Praslova, L., & Pearson, M. (2006). Quality of mental health interpreting. Presented at the 18th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Society, New York, NY.

Quality of mental health interpreting is increasingly important in diverse society. We investigate the number and types of mistakes made by interpreters in mental health contexts. Average rate of mistakes was 24 per encounter. Analysis of types and nature of mistakes has implications for selection and training of interpreters.
